What do you call when humans often try to find a reason for why an accident happens? even if it means blaming themselves to justify it?

Yes Yadira, it is called counterfactural thinking lol.this usually happends when there is an accident and the person in the accident tries to make a reasonable explination for what happend :]

Jacky's answer is correct, it does happen when there is an accident and someone tries to come up with a reasonable explanation. It usually takes place in a "If only" form for example if a student takes an exam and they dont do good theyll think, "If only I would have studied harder or gotten more help," this is counterfactual thinking. They also typically deal with causes and consequences.
