Counterfactual thinking is when someone thinks about alternative realities or things that haven't happened. A real life example would be like if you didn't study for a big math test and you fail. Thinking "Maybe if i would have studies for the test I would have passed," would be an example of this.
Counterfactual thinking is thinking about alternative realities and things that never actually happened. I often find myself doing this before making a decision, i try to imagine how the choice I am about to make would play in my mind, kind of like in the movie Mean Girls, you know how Cady always sees things happening without it really happening. lol An example of this would be "what if i would have worn something else for my senior pictures?" Counterfactual thinking usually raises up the popular "What if's" and "If only..." questions.
