How can heuristics be used in a problem solving process?

Heuristics can be used in a problem solving process by using an educated guess or common sense when needed. For example, when driving and the fuel gauge gets to the "E"(Empty) you know that you dont have much more miles to go before your car shuts down.

Heuristics is a problem solving tool where "rule of thumb": an educated guess and or common sense. The most common Heuristic solving method is trial and error where if you for example..
can't figure a problem, draw a picture of it
can't find a solution you "work backwards" like a maze where you start from the end and work your way to the start.

Heuristics can be used in a problem solving by making an educated guess, or a common sense thing.
