Who invented the theory of multiple intelligences?

The theory of multiple intelligences was brought up by Howard Gardner. The theory says that their is not on intelligence but many which are all independent of the others, Gardner lists 8 different ones: naturalistic, interpersonal, intrapersonal, bodily-kinesthetic, musical, spatial, linguistic, and logical-mathematical.
