Primary reinforcers satify biological needs which is crucial for survival

Secondary reinforcers however are reinforcers which we have learnt to associate with satifying our biological needs.

The primary reinforcers are things that don't have to be learned. The examples given in the book are sex, water, and food. The secondary reinforcers on the other hand are things that do have to be learned and we have to be conditioned to work right.
