Answer to Sonia Roman's question
1) after ten minutes in a dark room, our eyes adapt to the darkness by making the cones become more sensative to dim light. The process is called Dark Adaptation.

EdwinC. said...

My answer to Adrian Gonzalez's question:

We humans lack good-smelling skills because our ancestors lost the need for it when they became more dependent on the scent of sight and perception (think rotten food or a brightly-colored dart frog). Other mammals such as dogs or anteaters continue to use their smelling sense. Basically what it comes down to is using the sense or loosing it.

Taste;; those like sweet, bitter, salty, sour etc.
Flavor;; involves the sense of taste&& smell
Now as an example when you eat a chocolate cake(which I lovee by the way!!) you can TASTE the sweetness(yumm;P) && you can also recognize it has the FLAVOR of chocolate!!

Answer to Maria Cruz's question:

Well momocular cues are cues for visual that require the use of one eye while monarual cues are cues to sound location that requires use of one ear. Basically the similarity is that both require one to use and the difference is that one is hearing and the other is visual.

What dangers does a person who suffers from anosmia face?

Nathaniel Distancia said...

What is the one spot on the retina that has no receptor cells called?

Adriana Gonzalez P.6 said...

My answer to Mike's Question From Period 3,

Patients who suffer from anosmia may find food less appetizing, also the loss of the sense of smell can also be very dangerous because it could keep a patient from being able to detecting gas leaks, fire, and spoiled foods. Often when anosmia patients tend to go into depression. Another disadvantage is that it is more difficult for a patient to receive the same types of medical aid as someone who has lost other senses, such as hearing or sight.

in reply to Emilys question:
bottom-up processing..allows us to recognized more complex, whole patterns .
where top-down processing is our memory about how the world is organized helps in identifying patterns.
psychologists believe both bottom-up and top-down processing are necessary to explain pattern recognition.

Answer to Emily's question: The Difference between bottom up processing and top-down processing is that bottom up processing is the analysis that begins with the sensory receptors and works up to the brain's integration of sensory information and top-down processing is the info processing guide by higher-level mental processes, as when we construct perceptions drawing on our experience and expectations..
